The British Shorthair champions calm companionship. Often called the “teddy bear” cat, they carry a plush, dense coat, a round face, and a plush, sturdy body. Energy levels sit low-to-moderate, which suits apartments and busy households alike. This breed thrives as an indoor cat, appreciates routine, and bonds deeply – without demanding constant attention.
You’ll also find the British Longhair, a close variant with the same temperament in a longer, flowing coat. Both types bring steady, affectionate company.
British cats are famous for their round cheeks, balanced ear set, and a dense plush coat that begs to be petted. Eye color often glows copper/amber in many solids, while silver/golden shaded and colorpoint lines may show blue or green tones depending on color genetics.
Common and requested colors/patterns include:
Looking for a blue British Shorthair in Delaware or a rare golden shaded? Ask about current availability; we note color preference on your reservation or waitlist.
Quiet yet present, the British tends to lounge nearby, follow you from room to room, and choose affection on their terms.
Want help matching personality to your home? Tell us about your lifestyle; we’ll recommend kittens evaluated for confidence, cuddly tendencies, or more independent vibes.
Feed a high-quality diet with a wet/dry combination to support hydration and weight control. We provide food recommendations that match each kitten’s current diet to ensure a smooth transition.
Use a soft grooming brush once or twice a week for British Shorthair; increase frequency for British Longhair. Add regular nail trims and a stable scratching post to protect furniture.
We start litter training before go-home. Keep the same litter type initially, then change gradually if needed. Provide a roomy carrier and a quiet “first room” for the first 48-72 hours.
Kittens receive age-appropriate vaccinations (FVRCP core series and rabies at the appropriate age per local guidelines), deworming, and a vet wellness exam. We include fleas and heartworm prevention. FIV/FeLV testing is offered, and we can coordinate extra screenings like HCM (echo) or PKD (DNA) by request. Your pet/vet passport includes all medical records.

It is generally considered safe to spay kittens before they are fully grown. In fact, many veterinarians recommend spaying or neutering kittens as early as 8-16 weeks old. This is known as early-age spay/neuter or pediatric spay/neuter.
Early spaying has several benefits:
However, it is important to consult with a veterinarian to determine the best time to spay a kitten based on it individual health, breed, and circumstances. We will definitely do this if the age and health conditions of a kitten allow occurring the surgery before being shipped. We will not neuter/spay the kitten in the cases if a buyer will ask to neuter a kitten on its own or will buy the breeding rights for an additional cost with the kitten)
